अपर्याप्तं तदस्माकं बलं भीष्माभिरक्षितम् | पर्याप्तं त्विदमेतेषां बलं भीमाभिरक्षितम् ||१-१०||

aparyāptaṃ tadasmākaṃ balaṃ bhīṣmābhirakṣitam . paryāptaṃ tvidameteṣāṃ balaṃ bhīmābhirakṣitam ||1-10||
Hindi Meaning
।।1.10।।भीष्म के द्वारा हमारी रक्षित सेना अपर्याप्त है; किन्तु भीम द्वारा रक्षित उनकी सेना पर्याप्त है अथवा, भीष्म के द्वारा रक्षित हमारी सेना अपरिमित है किन्तु भीम के द्वारा रक्षित उनकी सेना परिमित ही है।
English Meaning
Our strength is immeasurable, and we are perfectly protected by Grandfather Bhīṣma, whereas the strength of the Pāṇḍavas, carefully protected by Bhīma, is limited.
Commentary
Herein an estimation of comparative strength is made by Duryodhana. He thinks that the strength of his armed forces is immeasurable, being specifically protected by the most experienced general, Grandfather Bhīṣma. On the other hand, the forces of the Pāṇḍavas are limited, being protected by a less experienced general, Bhīma, who is like a fig in the presence of Bhīṣma. Duryodhana was always envious of Bhīma because he knew perfectly well that if he should die at all, he would only be killed by Bhīma. But at the same time, he was confident of his victory on account of the presence of Bhīṣma, who was a far superior general. His conclusion that he would come out of the battle victorious was well ascertained.
Hinglish Commentary
Yahan Duryodhana apne fauj ki taqat ka andaza laga raha hai. Uska sochna hai ki uski sena ki taqat to bepanah hai, kyunki unka raksha karne wala hai sabse anubhavi general, Grandfather Bhīṣma. Dusri taraf, Pāṇḍavon ki sena thodi si hai, aur unka raksha karne wala hai Bhīma, jo Bhīṣma ke samne ek choti si fig ki tarah hai. Duryodhana ko hamesha Bhīma se jalan thi, kyunki usse achhe se pata tha ki agar uski maut hogi, to sirf Bhīma hi usse maar sakta hai. Lekin saath hi, usse apni jeet par poora vishwas tha, kyunki Bhīṣma jaise shreshth general ki maujoodgi uske liye ek bada fayda tha. Uska yeh nishkarsh ki wo yudh mein jeet jayega, usne achhe se samjha tha.
Chinmaya Commentary
हिन्दुओं की प्राचीन युद्ध पद्धति में किसी सेना के सेनापति के साथसाथ कोई योद्धा सेना का रक्षक भी होता था जिसमें शौर्य साहस और बुद्धिमत्ता जैसे गुण आवश्यक होते थे। कौरव और पाण्डव पक्षों में क्रमश भीष्म और भीम रक्षक थे।
