Bhagavad Gita Chapter 11 Verse 3 — Visvarupa Darsana Yoga

एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वमात्मानं परमेश्वर | द्रष्टुमिच्छामि ते रूपमैश्वरं पुरुषोत्तम ||११-३||

Transliteration

evametadyathāttha tvamātmānaṃ parameśvara . draṣṭumicchāmi te rūpamaiśvaraṃ puruṣottama ||11-3||

Hindi Meaning

।।11.3।। हे परमेश्वर ! आप अपने को जैसा कहते हो, यह ठीक ऐसा ही है। (परन्तु) हे पुरुषोत्तम ! मैं आपके ईश्वरीय रूप को प्रत्यक्ष देखना चाहता हूँ।।

English Meaning

O greatest of all personalities, O supreme form, though I see You here before me in Your actual position, as You have described Yourself, I wish to see how You have entered into this cosmic manifestation. I want to see that form of Yours.

Commentary

The Lord said that because He entered into the material universe by His personal representation, the cosmic manifestation has been made possible and is going on. Now as far as Arjuna is concerned, he is inspired by the statements of Kṛṣṇa, but in order to convince others in the future who may think that Kṛṣṇa is an ordinary person, Arjuna desires to see Him actually in His universal form, to see how He is acting from within the universe, although He is apart from it. Arjuna’s addressing the Lord as puruṣottama is also significant. Since the Lord is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He is present within Arjuna himself; therefore He knows the desire of Arjuna, and He can understand that Arjuna has no special desire to see Him in His universal form, for Arjuna is completely satisfied to see Him in His personal form of Kṛṣṇa. But the Lord can understand also that Arjuna wants to see the universal form to convince others. Arjuna did not have any personal desire for confirmation. Kṛṣṇa also understands that Arjuna wants to see the universal form to set a criterion, for in the future there would be so many imposters who would pose themselves as incarnations of God. The people, therefore, should be careful; one who claims to be Kṛṣṇa should be prepared to show his universal form to confirm his claim to the people.

Bhagwan ne kaha ki unka is material universe mein pravesh unki vyaktigat pratinidhi ke zariye hua hai, aur isi wajah se ye cosmic manifestation sambhav hua hai aur ab tak chal raha hai. Ab Arjuna ki baat karein, toh wo Kṛṣṇa ke vachan se prerit hai, lekin wo chahte hain ki dusre logon ko bhi yeh samajh aaye ki Kṛṣṇa koi aam vyakti nahi hain. Isliye, Arjuna yeh chahte hain ki wo Kṛṣṇa ko unki universal form mein dekhein, taaki wo yeh dekh saken ki Kṛṣṇa kaise is universe ke andar se kaam kar rahe hain, jabki wo isse alag hain. Arjuna ka Bhagwan ko puruṣottama kehna bhi bahut maayne rakhta hai. Kyunki Bhagwan sabse uchit vyakti hain, wo Arjuna ke andar bhi maujood hain; isliye unhe Arjuna ki ichchha ka pata hai, aur wo samajhte hain ki Arjuna ko unki universal form dekhne ki koi khaas ichchha nahi hai, kyunki wo Kṛṣṇa ki vyaktigat form dekh kar hi santusht hain. Lekin Bhagwan yeh bhi samajhte hain ki Arjuna yeh universal form dekhna chahte hain taaki dusron ko samjha sakein. Arjuna ka koi vyaktigat confirmation ka desire nahi hai. Kṛṣṇa bhi yeh samajhte hain ki Arjuna ka yeh dekhna isliye zaroori hai taaki aane wale samay mein bahut se log khud ko Bhagwan ka avataar batayenge. Logon ko is baat ka dhyan rakhna chahiye; jo koi Kṛṣṇa hone ka daawa kare, usse apni universal form dikhane ke liye tayyar rehna chahiye, taaki wo apne daawa ko sabit kar sakein.

संस्कृत से वाक्प्रचार एवमेतत् यह ठीक ऐसा ही है के द्वारा अर्जुन तत्त्वज्ञान के सैद्धान्तिक पक्ष को स्वीकार करता है। समस्त नाम और रूपों में ईश्वर की व्यापकता की सिद्धि बौद्धिक दृष्टि से संतोषजनक थी। फिर भी बुद्धि को अभी भी प्रत्यक्षीकरण की प्रतीक्षा थी। इसलिए अर्जुन कहता है कि मैं आपके ईश्वरीय रूप को देखना चाहता हूँ। हमारे शास्त्रों में ईश्वर का वर्णन इस प्रकार किया गया है कि वह ज्ञान ऐश्वर्य शक्ति बल वीर्य और तेज इन छ गुणों से सम्पन्न है।इस अवसर पर भगवान् ने अर्जुन को यह दर्शाने का निश्चय किया कि वे न केवल समस्त व्यष्टि रूपों में व्याप्त हैं वरन् वे वह समष्टिरूपी पात्र हैं जिसमें ही समस्त नाम और रूपों का अस्तित्व है। भगवान् सर्वव्यापक होने के साथहीसाथ सर्वातीत भी हैं।यद्यपि कट्टर बुद्धिवाद के अत्युत्साह में आकर अर्जुन ने विश्वरूप दर्शन की अपनी मांग भगवान् के समक्ष रखी किन्तु उसे तत्काल यह भान हुआ कि उसकी यह धृष्टता है और उसने सद्व्यवहार की मर्यादा का उल्लंघन किया है।अगले श्लोक में वह अधिक नम्रता से कहता है
