Bhagavad Gita Chapter 11 Verse 50 — Visvarupa Darsana Yoga

सञ्जय उवाच | इत्यर्जुनं वासुदेवस्तथोक्त्वा स्वकं रूपं दर्शयामास भूयः | आश्वासयामास च भीतमेनं भूत्वा पुनः सौम्यवपुर्महात्मा ||११-५०||
Transliteration
sañjaya uvāca . ityarjunaṃ vāsudevastathoktvā svakaṃ rūpaṃ darśayāmāsa bhūyaḥ . āśvāsayāmāsa ca bhītamenaṃ bhūtvā punaḥ saumyavapurmahātmā ||11-50||

।।11.50।। संजय ने कहा -- भगवान् वासुदेव ने अर्जुन से इस प्रकार कहकर, पुन: अपने (पूर्व) रूप को दर्शाया, और फिर, सौम्यरूप महात्मा श्रीकृष्ण ने इस भयभीत अर्जुन को आश्वस्त किया।।
English Meaning
Sañjaya said to Dhṛtarāṣṭra: The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, having spoken thus to Arjuna, displayed His real four-armed form and at last showed His two-armed form, thus encouraging the fearful Arjuna.
Commentary
When Kṛṣṇa appeared as the son of Vasudeva and Devakī, He first of all appeared as four-armed Nārāyaṇa, but when He was requested by His parents, He transformed Himself into an ordinary child in appearance. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa knew that Arjuna was not interested in seeing a four-handed form, but since Arjuna asked to see this four-handed form, Kṛṣṇa also showed him this form again and then showed Himself in His two-handed form. The word saumya-vapuḥ is very significant. Saumya-vapuḥ is a very beautiful form; it is known as the most beautiful form. When He was present, everyone was attracted simply by Kṛṣṇa’s form, and because Kṛṣṇa is the director of the universe, He just banished the fear of Arjuna, His devotee, and showed him again His beautiful form of Kṛṣṇa. In the Brahma-saṁhitā (5.38) it is stated, premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena: only a person whose eyes are smeared with the ointment of love can see the beautiful form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

Jab Kṛṣṇa Vasudeva aur Devakī ke putra ke roop mein aaye, toh sabse pehle unka darshan chaar haathon wale Nārāyaṇa ke roop mein hua. Lekin jab unke maa-baap ne unse kuchh maanga, toh unhone apne aapko ek aam bachche ke roop mein badal diya. Waise hi, Kṛṣṇa ko pata tha ki Arjuna ko chaar haath wala roop dekhne mein koi dilchaspi nahi hai, lekin jab Arjuna ne yeh roop dekhne ki maang ki, toh Kṛṣṇa ne phir se us roop ko dikhaya aur phir apne do haath wale roop mein prakat hue. Yeh jo saumya-vapuḥ ka shabd hai, yeh bahut hi maayne rakhta hai. Saumya-vapuḥ ka matlab hai sabse sundar roop, aur jab Kṛṣṇa wahan hote the, toh sab log unki sundarta ki taraf bas khinchte chale aate the. Kṛṣṇa, jo ki is jagat ke director hain, unhone Arjuna ke dar ko door kiya aur unhe apna sundar roop dikhaya. Brahma-saṁhitā mein bhi kaha gaya hai, premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena: sirf wahi vyakti, jinki aankhein prem ke ointment se bhari hui hain, wahi Śrī Kṛṣṇa ke is sundar roop ko dekh sakte hain.

यहाँ संजय अन्ध वृद्ध राजा से इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि भगवान् ने अपने दिये हुए वचन के अनुसार पुन सौम्य रूप को धारण किया। वासुदेव शब्द से यह स्पष्ट करते हैं कि पूर्व का रूप कौन सा था वह रूप जिसमें श्रीकृष्ण ने वसुदेव के घर जन्म लिया था। भगवान् ने पुन अर्जुन के परिचित मित्र और गोपियों के घनश्याम कृष्ण का सौम्य और प्रिय रूप धारण किया। भयभीत अर्जुन को वे मधुर वचनों से आश्वस्त करते हैं।यहाँ फिर एक बार हम संजय के शब्दों में उसकी व्याकुलता देखते हैं। वह चाहता है कि धृतराष्ट्र यह देखें कि श्रीकृष्ण ही विश्वेश्वर हैं और वे पाण्डवों के साथ हैं। किन्तु कैसे क्या कभी एक अन्धा व्यक्ति देख सकता हैफिर रणभूमि का दृश्य है। संजय अर्जुन के शब्दों में सूचित करता है कि
