Bhagavad Gita Chapter 11 Verse 51 — Visvarupa Darsana Yoga

अर्जुन उवाच | दृष्ट्वेदं मानुषं रूपं तव सौम्यं जनार्दन | इदानीमस्मि संवृत्तः सचेताः प्रकृतिं गतः ||११-५१||
Transliteration
arjuna uvāca . dṛṣṭvedaṃ mānuṣaṃ rūpaṃ tava saumyaṃ janārdana . idānīmasmi saṃvṛttaḥ sacetāḥ prakṛtiṃ gataḥ ||11-51||
Hindi Meaning
।।11.51।। अर्जुन ने कहा -- हे जनार्दन! आपके इस सौम्य मनुष्य रूप को देखकर अब मैं शांतचित्त हुआ अपने स्वभाव को प्राप्त हो गया हूँ।।
English Meaning
When Arjuna thus saw Kṛṣṇa in His original form, he said: O Janārdana, seeing this humanlike form, so very beautiful, I am now composed in mind, and I am restored to my original nature.
Commentary
Here the words mānuṣaṁ rūpam clearly indicate the Supreme Personality of Godhead to be originally two-handed. Those who deride Kṛṣṇa as if He were an ordinary person are shown here to be ignorant of His divine nature. If Kṛṣṇa is like an ordinary human being, then how is it possible for Him to show the universal form and again to show the four-handed Nārāyaṇa form? So it is very clearly stated in Bhagavad-gītā that one who thinks that Kṛṣṇa is an ordinary person and who misguides the reader by claiming that it is the impersonal Brahman within Kṛṣṇa speaking is doing the greatest injustice. Kṛṣṇa has actually shown His universal form and His four-handed Viṣṇu form. So how can He be an ordinary human being? A pure devotee is not confused by misguiding commentaries on Bhagavad-gītā because he knows what is what. The original verses of Bhagavad-gītā are as clear as the sun; they do not require lamplight from foolish commentators.

Yahan "mānuṣaṁ rūpam" ka matlab hai ki Bhagwan ki asli roop do haath wale hain. Jo log Kṛṣṇa ko ek aam insaan samajhte hain, unhe unki divya prakriti ka pata nahi hai. Agar Kṛṣṇa sirf ek aam insaan hote, toh wo universal form kaise dikha sakte ya phir chaar haath wale Nārāyaṇa roop kaise dikhate? Bhagavad-gītā mein yeh bilkul saaf hai ki jo log Kṛṣṇa ko ek samanya vyakti samajhte hain aur kehate hain ki unke andar sirf impersonal Brahman bol raha hai, wo sabse bada annyay kar rahe hain. Kṛṣṇa ne sach mein apna universal form aur chaar haath wale Viṣṇu roop dikhaye hain. Toh kaise wo ek aam insaan ho sakte hain? Ek shuddh bhakta in galat fehmi wale vyakhyaon se confuse nahi hote, kyunki unhe sab kuch samajh aata hai. Bhagavad-gītā ke asli shlok itne saaf hain jaise suraj ki roshni; inhe bekaar ke commentators ki roshni ki zaroorat nahi hai.
Chinmaya Commentary
देशकालातीत वस्तु को ग्रहण तथा अनुभव करने के लिए आवश्यक पूर्व तैयारी के अभाव के कारण अकस्मात् समष्टि के इतने विशाल विराट् रूप को देखकर स्वाभाविक है कि अर्जुन भय और मोह से ग्रस्त हो गया था। परन्तु यहाँ वह स्वीकार करता है कि भगवान् के शान्त सौम्य मनुष्य रूप को देखकर वह शान्तचित्त होकर अपने स्वभाव को प्राप्त हो गया है।अब भगवान् स्वयं ही ईश्वर की भक्ति का वर्णन अगले श्लोक में करते हैं।
