Bhagavad Gita Chapter 17 Verse 22 — Sraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga

अदेशकाले यद्दानमपात्रेभ्यश्च दीयते | असत्कृतमवज्ञातं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ||१७-२२||
Transliteration
adeśakāle yaddānamapātrebhyaśca dīyate . asatkṛtamavajñātaṃ tattāmasamudāhṛtam ||17-22||
Hindi Meaning
।।17.22।। जो दान बिना सत्कार किये, अथवा तिरस्कारपूर्वक, अयोग्य देशकाल में, कुपात्रों के लिए दिया जाता है, वह दान तामस माना गया है।।
English Meaning
And charity performed at an impure place, at an improper time, to unworthy persons, or without proper attention and respect is said to be in the mode of ignorance.
Commentary
Contributions for indulgence in intoxication and gambling are not encouraged here. That sort of contribution is in the mode of ignorance. Such charity is not beneficial; rather, sinful persons are encouraged. Similarly, if a person gives charity to a suitable person but without respect and without attention, that sort of charity is also said to be in the mode of darkness.
Hinglish Commentary
Yahan par jo intoxication aur gambling mein indulgence hai, uske liye contributions ko encourage nahi kiya jaata. Yeh sab cheezein ignorance ke mode mein aati hain. Aisi charity ka koi fayda nahi hai; isse sirf paap karne wale logon ko encourage kiya jaata hai. Waise hi, agar koi vyakti kisi suitable insaan ko charity deta hai lekin bina respect aur attention ke, toh yeh bhi darkness ke mode mein aata hai. Is tarah ki charity bhi samajh nahi aati aur iska koi asli maqsad nahi hota. Samajh lo, charity ka asli maqsad hai ki hum apni bhavnaon se, samajh kar aur izzat ke saath kisi ki madad karein.
Chinmaya Commentary
संक्षेपत सात्त्विक दान के जो सर्वथा विपरीत है वह दान तामस कहा जाता है। कुपात्र का अर्थ है मूर्ख चोर मद्यपानादि करने वाले लोग।यज्ञ दान तप आदि को सुसंस्कृत और सम्पूर्ण करने के लिए भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण उपदेश देते हुए कहते हैं
