Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7 Verse 22 — Jnana Vijnana Yoga

स तया श्रद्धया युक्तस्तस्याराधनमीहते | लभते च ततः कामान्मयैव विहितान्हि तान् ||७-२२||
Transliteration
sa tayā śraddhayā yuktastasyārādhanamīhate . labhate ca tataḥ kāmānmayaivavihitānhi tān ||7-22||
Hindi Meaning
।।7.22।। वह (भक्त) उस श्रद्धा से युक्त होकर उस देवता का पूजन करता है और उससे मेरे द्वारा विधान किये हुये इच्छित भोगों को नि:सन्देह प्राप्त करता है।।
English Meaning
Endowed with such a faith, he endeavors to worship a particular demigod and obtains his desires. But in actuality these benefits are bestowed by Me alone.
Commentary
The demigods cannot award benedictions to their devotees without the permission of the Supreme Lord. The living entity may forget that everything is the property of the Supreme Lord, but the demigods do not forget. So the worship of demigods and achievement of desired results are due not to the demigods but to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, by arrangement. The less intelligent living entity does not know this, and therefore he foolishly goes to the demigods for some benefit. But the pure devotee, when in need of something, prays only to the Supreme Lord. Asking for material benefit, however, is not a sign of a pure devotee. A living entity goes to the demigods usually because he is mad to fulfill his lust. This happens when something undue is desired by the living entity and the Lord Himself does not fulfill the desire. In the Caitanya-caritāmṛta it is said that one who worships the Supreme Lord and at the same time desires material enjoyment is contradictory in his desires. Devotional service to the Supreme Lord and the worship of a demigod cannot be on the same platform, because worship of a demigod is material and devotional service to the Supreme Lord is completely spiritual. For the living entity who desires to return to Godhead, material desires are impediments. A pure devotee of the Lord is therefore not awarded the material benefits desired by less intelligent living entities, who therefore prefer to worship demigods of the material world rather than engage in the devotional service of the Supreme Lord.
Hinglish Commentary
Demigods apne bhakt ko koi bhi vardaan nahi de sakte bina Supreme Lord ki permission ke. Jitne bhi jeev hain, wo bhool jaate hain ki sab kuch Supreme Lord ka hai, par demigods ye nahi bhoolte. Isliye, jab hum demigods ki pooja karte hain aur kuch chahte hain, toh ye unka nahi, balki Supreme Personality of Godhead ka arrangement hota hai. Jo log samajhdar nahi hote, wo is baat ko nahi samajhte aur bekaar mein demigods ke paas jaate hain kuch faayda lene ke liye. Lekin ek pure devotee, jab kuch chahte hain, toh sirf Supreme Lord se prarthna karte hain. Material benefit maangna ek pure devotee ki nishani nahi hoti. Log aksar demigods ke paas isliye jaate hain kyunki unhe apne ichhaon ko pura karne ki uljhan hoti hai. Jab unki koi aisi ichha hoti hai jo Lord khud nahi pura karte, tab wo demigods ki taraf jaate hain. Caitanya-caritāmṛta mein kaha gaya hai ki jo log Supreme Lord ki pooja karte hain aur saath hi material enjoyment ki ichha rakhte hain, wo apne ichhaon mein contradiction rakhte hain. Supreme Lord ki bhakti aur demigod ki pooja ek hi level par nahi ho sakti, kyunki demigod ki pooja material hai aur Supreme Lord ki bhakti poori tarah spiritual. Jo jeev Godhead mein wapas jaana chahte hain, unke liye material desires rukawat hain. Isliye, ek pure devotee ko un material benefits ka vardaan nahi milta jo less intelligent jeev chahte hain, aur isliye wo demigods ki pooja karna pasand karte hain, na ki Supreme Lord ki bhakti mein engage hona.
Chinmaya Commentary
वह भक्त उस श्रद्धा से युक्त होकर अपने इष्ट देवता की आराधना करता है जिसके फलस्वरूप वह देवता उसकी इच्छा को पूर्ण करता है। परन्तु भगवान् कहते हैं कि वास्तव में कर्मफलदाता वे ही हैं। सर्वज्ञ सर्वशक्तिमान परमात्मा ही समस्त जगत् का आदि कारण होने से मनुष्य को कर्म करने की और देवताओं को फल प्रदान करने की सार्मथ्य उन्हीं से प्राप्त होती है। इष्टानिष्ट फलों की प्राप्ति से सुख दुखादि का अनुभव अन्तकरण में होता है जिसे आत्मचैतन्य प्रकाशित करता है। उसके बिना इस प्रकार का कोई अनुभव प्राप्त नहीं हो सकता।श्रद्धा के साथ किये हुये पूजन से ईश्वर द्वारा विधान किये हुए नियम के अनुसार फल प्राप्त होता है। यहाँ श्रीकृष्ण अपने परमात्म स्वरूप के साथ तादात्म्य करके कहते हैं वे इष्ट फल मेरे द्वारा ही दिये जाते हैं।अविवेकी लोग अनित्य भोगों की कामना करते हैं इसलिए उन्हें कभी शाश्वत शान्ति प्राप्त नहीं होती अत कहते हैं
