Hindi Meaning
।।8.12।। सब (इन्द्रियों के) द्वारों को संयमित कर मन को हृदय में स्थिर करके और प्राण को मस्तक में स्थापित करके योगधारणा में स्थित हुआ।।
English Meaning
The yogic situation is that of detachment from all sensual engagements. Closing all the doors of the senses and fixing the mind on the heart and the life air at the top of the head, one establishes himself in yoga.
Commentary
To practice yoga as suggested here, one first has to close the doors of all sense enjoyment. This practice is called pratyāhāra, or withdrawing the senses from the sense objects. The sense organs for acquiring knowledge – the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and touch – should be fully controlled and should not be allowed to engage in self-gratification. In this way the mind focuses on the Supersoul in the heart, and the life force is raised to the top of the head. In the Sixth Chapter this process is described in detail. But as mentioned before, this practice is not practical in this age. The best process is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. If one is always able to fix his mind on Kṛṣṇa in devotional service, it is very easy for him to remain in an undisturbed transcendental trance, or in samādhi.
Hinglish Commentary
Yoga ki practice karne ke liye, sabse pehle humein apne saare sense enjoyment ke darwaze band karne hote hain. Is practice ko pratyāhāra kaha jaata hai, yaani senses ko unke objects se door karna. Jo sense organs hain jaise aankhein, kaan, naak, zubaan aur sparsh, unhe poori tarah se control karna zaroori hai, taki ye khud ki khushi ke liye na engage ho sakein. Jab hum aisa karte hain, tab humara mann Supersoul par focus karta hai jo hamare dil mein hai, aur hamari life force sir ke upar tak uth jaati hai. Is process ko Sixth Chapter mein detail mein explain kiya gaya hai. Lekin jaise pehle bataya gaya, ye practice aaj ke yug mein itni practical nahi hai. Sabse achha tareeka hai Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Agar koi insaan apne mann ko hamesha Kṛṣṇa ke bhakti mein fix kar sakta hai, toh uske liye ek undisturbed transcendental trance ya samādhi mein rehna bahut aasaan hota hai.
